About Gringa in Mexico
My Great Escape
Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of living in Mexico and learning to speak Spanish.
As I got older, that dream stayed with me—but it always seemed to belong to some distant version of my life. Maybe someday. Maybe when the timing was better. Maybe when I had done all the things I was supposed to do first.
Then, in 2020, a near-death experience changed the way I looked at everything.
I realized that although I had built what most people would consider a “good” and successful life, I hadn’t necessarily built the life I wanted. I had spent years being good, being responsible, doing the right things—and postponing some of the things that mattered most to me.
Facing the possibility of losing my life made me realize how much I regretted not truly living it.
So I did something drastic.
Within six months—and in the middle of the COVID pandemic—I quit my job, sold my house, got rid of most of my possessions, and loaded what remained into and onto my Ford Escape.
Then my daughter, our two dogs, and I drove to Mexico.
It became, quite literally, my Great Escape.
Building a Life in Mexico
Today, I maintain ties to both Mexico and the United States, and I’ve learned that creating an international life isn’t nearly as impossible as it once seemed.
I’ve also learned that moving to Mexico is the easy part. Building a sustainable life here is something else entirely.
There are practical realities behind the beautiful photos and stories: earning an income, navigating cultural differences, figuring out how things work, building community, finding housing, accessing services, working with people across two countries, making mistakes, changing plans, and learning as you go.
That’s the part of Mexico I want to talk about.

Gringa in Mexico is about living—and making a living—in Mexico.
Through my writing and podcast, I share my own experiences as well as the experiences of other people who have built lives here: why we came, what we’ve learned, what we love, what we struggle with, and how we’ve found ways to make our lives in Mexico work.
If you’re considering making Mexico part of your own story, I hope Gringa in Mexico gives you a more realistic picture of what’s possible—and helps you ask better questions before taking the leap.
Making a Living in Mexico
One of the biggest questions for people who dream about living in Mexico is also one of the most practical:
How am I going to support myself?
Not everyone who wants to live in Mexico is independently wealthy. Not everyone has a pension. And not everyone wants to wait until 65 to start living somewhere they love.
That’s why I created Build Your Income in Mexico.
It’s a six-week business-development program designed for foreigners who want to create sustainable income that supports their life in Mexico.
Maybe that means consulting or freelancing using expertise you already have. Maybe it’s remote work, an online business, or a local service business. Or perhaps you know you need another source of income but aren’t yet sure what that should look like.
We’ll work through the business questions that turn an interesting idea into something you can actually evaluate:
What can you realistically monetize? Who would pay for it? What problem are you solving? How should you position your offer? What should you charge? Do the numbers work? How will customers find you? And, most importantly, does this income model support the life you actually want to live?
By the end of the program, you’ll have a defined income strategy, customer and offer, pricing and basic financial model, customer-acquisition strategy, and a practical 90-day plan for moving forward.
This isn’t about selling you the fantasy of quitting your job and moving to paradise.
It’s about figuring out how to financially sustain the life you want to build here.
Build your income. Build your independence. Build your life in Mexico.

Make the Years Count
I still believe what my experience in 2020 taught me:
Sometimes the things that scare us most are the things standing between us and the lives we actually want.
Moving to Mexico didn’t magically make life perfect. It did, however, teach me that it’s possible to question the life you’ve been told you’re supposed to build—and deliberately start building a different one.
Here’s to making the years count.
